Meikai University visits NDPTC

School of Real Estate Science at Meikai University in Chiba, Japan visits with Dr. Karl Kim

On September 1, NDPTC hosted a study group from the School of Real Estate Science at Meikai University in Chiba, Japan. Executive Director Karl Kim led the group on a walking tour of downtown Honolulu, and explained the historical development of the downtown and Honolulu Harbor areas. The students visited the famous Aloha Tower, where Honolulu’s tourism industry began, and from that vantage point were able to see harbor infrastructure through which most goods flow to and from Hawaii. Students also learned about the architectural styles reflected in the downtown area, and how traffic flow and control concepts have changed over the years. Meikai’s School of Real Estate Science plans to continue with annual study group visits to Hawaii, and hopes to build a more formal relationship with the UHM Department of Urban and Regional Planning.
