NDPTC’s Third Thursday Climate Change Talk Drew Diverse Crowd

The National Disaster Preparedness Training Center’s Third Thursday event on February 20th featured a talk on Human Vulnerability to Climate Change by Camilo Mora, Assistant Professor of Geography at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa

Mora presented findings from his studies on the full chain of events by which the ocean changes in temperature, pH, oxygen, and productivity, triggered by manmade greenhouse gases that may cascade through marine habitats and organisms, penetrating to the deep ocean and eventually influencing humans. Mora’s compelling presentation included detailed scenarios of how greenhouse gas emissions could shift the Earth's climate beyond historical analogs by 2047, affecting up to five billion people and the most biodiverse places of the planet.

 
The Third Thursday event, held at the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, drew a large audience from the university, as well as from NDPTC and its professional colleagues, instructors, and friends. Future Third Thursday events will continue to be held at the NDPTC offices, as well as at new venues, for variety and convenience for our various colleagues.
