FEMA urging Hawaii Residents to Prepare for Hurricane Season Flooding

Posted on May 23, 2019

Flood Insurance helps Communities Recover Faster

The 2019 hurricane season is almost here. To urge communities to prepare for hurricanes and the devastating flooding they can bring, FEMA’s National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) is encouraging residents in Hawaii to protect the lives they’ve built by investing in flood insurance. As a trusted leader in our community, we want to alert you of this effort and invite you to help spread the word about the vital protection and peace of mind flood insurance offers.

The NFIP is promoting flood insurance over the radio and at gas stations in Hawaii through June 2019. We invite you to help amplify this public service messaging by engaging your networks. You can help the public understand their flood risk and purchase flood insurance today.

You can easily join the conversation on social media by simply filling up your car with gas! While visiting your local gas station, if your pump happens to have a FloodSmart message, we encourage you to snap a photo and post it on your social media. Below are a couple of messages you can use along with your photos:

Each year, many parts of the United States – including Hawaii – experience heavy rains, and coastal storm surges from tropical storms and hurricanes. Flood insurance protects residents’ homes and savings, making individuals and communities more resilient after experiencing flood damage. That’s why we’re reaching out now – to help raise awareness and protect Hawaii’s residents from flood losses before hurricanes occur. And remember, hurricane insurance only covers wind damage, residents need a separate flood insurance policy to be covered for flood damage.
