NDPTC Deputy Director meets with Tohoku University faculty to discuss disaster management and preparedness

Professor Emeritus Toshio Hattori, who has a joint appointment to the Tohoku University Emerging Infectious Diseases Section of the Public Health School for Human Security Program and the Disaster-Related Infectious Diseases Section of the International Research Institute of Disaster Science (IRIDeS), visited NDPTC downtown Honolulu office on September 8th.
Dr. Hattori, has an M.D. and Ph.D. in clinical immunology from Kyoto University. IRIDeS has over 200 researchers investigating a wide range of topics, including tsunami engineering, international disaster resilience, disaster robotics, and social systems for disaster management. Tohoku Unversity is located in Sendai, a port city in northern Honshu, along the coastline area impacted by the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake. Dr. Hattori exchanged views on disaster management and preparedness training with Ray Tsuchiyama, NDPTC Deputy Director.
