NDPTC and Hawaii's Emergency Management Organization Discuss Makani Pahili
Posted on June 5, 2014
Hurricanes result in some of the most devastating, wide-spread, and costly disasters
The high winds, heavy rainfall, and storm surge associated with tropical cyclones can result in major disruptions and devastation. Warning systems, advance planning, and exercises can help reduce the impacts and help authorities better respond to challenges posed by damaged infrastructure and displaced populations. NDPTC, Hawaii State Civil Defense, Hawaii Department of Defense, and the East West Center have discussions with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) who are in Hawaii in preparation for Makani Pahili, Hawaii's annual Statewide Hurricane Preparedness Exercise.
