Memorandum of Agreement Signed Between the National Disaster Preparedness Training Center And Northwest Tribal Emergency Management Council (NWTEMC)

The National Disaster Preparedness Training Center and the Northwest Tribal Emergency Management Council (NWTEMC) have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOU).   NDPTC and NWTEMC will work together to deliver NDPTC courses to tribal nations’ participants first in the Pacific Northwest and then throughout other regions with the primary goal of “improving education and training to reduce the impacts of disasters”.

Based in western Washington State, the Northwest Tribal Emergency Management Council (NWTEMC) is a non-profit organization established in 2004 bringing tribal emergency management organizations together to share information and best practices and to discuss public safety/homeland security issues affecting tribal nations.  Executive Director Lynda Zambrano is the main working contact for NWTEMC.  The National Tribal Emergency Management Council (NTEMC) is a subsidiary of the NWTEMC.

The NWTEMC provides guidance and tools for member tribes – including the Kalispel, Tachi, Stillaguamish, Coeur D'Alene, Spokane, Lummi, Muckleshoot, Shoshone-Bannock, Tulalip, Samish (and others) in Washington State, Idaho, Oregon and Alaska -- to develop sustainable and all-hazard approaches to Emergency Management and Homeland Security, through an approach that emphasizes both inter and intra jurisdictional cooperation to maximize resources in mutual aid, training, exercises, planning, and equipping by sharing information and best practices.

 The purpose of the NDPTC-NWTEMC MOU is to develop and maintain a mutual working relationship in order to seek ways to improve disaster related education and training and to improve access to that education though both organizations’ networks.
