UAV/Drone survey research on traffic safety

Posted on July 14, 2016

The NDPTC (ndptc.hawaii.edu) is conducting research on traffic safety and drones. Please take this survey questionnaire and share the link with others.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or "drones" are a rapidly emerging technology. In addition to military, commercial, and civilian uses, drones outfitted with cameras and other sensors have been used to record sporting events and to capture imagery in urban and natural settings. With decreased costs, and increased availability, there are growing concerns about safety and security, privacy, and the appropriate use of drones. In addition to regulations proliferated by the Federal Aviation Administration, other governmental agencies have been tasked to consider the regulation and management of drones in public spaces. The National Disaster Preparedness Training Center (NDPTC) and the Department of Urban and Regional Planning (DURP) at the University of Hawaii are conducting this survey to assess concerns regarding traffic safety and the use of UAVs on roadways, parking areas, and other public spaces. As a transportation or law enforcement professional or researcher, your input on this topic is vital. The findings will be shared at conference presentations and in publications. The questionnaire should take approximately 10 minutes to complete.

Benefits:  This survey is being conducted in order to collect perceptions and experiences regarding drones  (UAVs) and their potential impact on traffic safety. The results will help the research team to understand threats and hazards associated with increased drone use over roadways and other public spaces.
