UH Faculty Received By Sultan of Tidore

Dr. Karl Kim, Professor of Urban and Regional Planning and Executive Director of the National Disaster Preparedness Training Center at the University of Hawaii, met with the Sultan of Tidore

Dr. Karl Kim, Professor of Urban and Regional Planning and Executive Director of the National Disaster Preparedness Training Center at the University of Hawaii, met with the Sultan of Tidore, to discuss natural hazards and opportunities for research, training and education with university partners.  A team of UH faculty, including Dolores Foley, Kem Lowry, Bruce Houghton, and Keith Bettinger are in Indonesia as part of a USAID funded training program on disaster risk reduction. In addition to discussing flooding, coastal hazards, sea level rise, the UH team is also supporting efforts to strengthen training and education on food security, transportation systems, and trade.  The team from Hawaii has partnered with Hope Worldwide and other organizations in the region to support disaster risk reduction.
